The purpose of this site is simply to give back to musical community.

My name is Stephen Sherrard, and I consider myself very fortunate to be able to make a living working as a full time music producer and recording engineer in the music industry. I've been working in this business professionally for over 12 years now (as of 2005). This site is my way of giving back to musical community that has been so gracious to me.

On this site I attempt to share some of the knowledge I have gained along the way, mostly on the technical recording side, but also on the business side of the business. As much as possible, I also try to answer your questions in any area that I am qualified. Check out the Message Board for my "Ask MusicTECH" section where I personally answer as many questions as I can.

As of April 2005, I'm totally reworking and redesigning the site (except for the message board and links directory) and have installed a new script system that will much more easily allow me to post new articles, reviews, recommendations, and more.

In addition, I will be trying to recruit other professionals from the industry to contribute articles as well (and maybe allow me to interview them).

This site is mostly a labor of love. In addition to producing music and recording, I also enjoy playing around with web design. Of course, I'll use this site to promote my other sites and my own production company once in a while, and there are some affiliate links on this site that generate a very small amount of money. As of right now (April 2005), this site does not make enough money to even cover its expenses, but I feel it is my obligation to share what I have learned and to help others out in any way that I can.

If you have any questions for me, the first preference is to post them on the Message Board so that others can learn from my answers as well. If it is something more personal in nature, or that simply isn't suited for the message board, then use the contact page to send me a private e-mail. Also, feel free to send me your comments or feedback on the site, or if you have something useful to contribute or would like to help out in any way at all, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Background

Music-And-Technology.com was originally simply Music-TECH.com, which is what I call my studio here in the Seattle area. The site was originally just a site to promote my studio business, and was put online in 1996.

Somewhere around the year 2000, I expanded my business into more of a production company and came up with a new name, DBAR Productions, for that side of the business. Part of the reason was to avoid confusion with several other business that were also calling themselves "musictech" in one form or another.

You will now find all the information on my production company and recording studio on the DBAR Productions web site. The Music-TECH site has now become Music-And-Technology.com (but also still works using Music-tech.com as well), and is mostly an information site.
